Organizations and institutions get information about the Albanian Child National Helpline and discuss the system of referal
ALO 116 – Albanian Child National Helpline, held today an open day and welcomed in its offices representatives from public institutions, organizations of civil society especially those focusing on the advancement of children’s rights.
This session aimed to inform and raise awareness among civil society organizations about ALO 116, the services offered and forms of collaboration which could take form in the future, with the aim of advancing chilren’s rights and solving their problems and concerns evidenced in the last three years.
At the presentation, ALO 116 staff informed about their system of referal for each case, has managed to collect statistics and information on problems and issues of concern for Albanian children and has managed to give contribution in the solution of problems of violance, exploitation and discrimination against children. Also ALO 116 has managed to loby and advocate with institutions thanks to the aquired information and knowledge. The presentation was followed by a series of questions regarding the functions of the line, the problems reported and the system of referal.
Thanks also to the construction intervention of the Ombudsman Mr. Igli Totozani, the Comissioner against Discrimination and representatives of institutions and civil society organizations, the debate focused in relation to several problems with the referal system and required interventions for solving children’s problems.
During the discussion it was said that despite the existence of a legal profile, the coordinating effect of the Social Services, ALO 116 needs to follow and monitor each refered case due to the fact that services have not reached that level of independence and efficiency. According to participants the referal system needs to function in such ways for cases to be delegated to the NGO-s as entities which have the necessary capacities for intervention.
With the suggestion of the Ombudsperson Mr. Igli Totozani, all participating organizations where invited to prepare concrete legislative changes which would bring improvements to the service.

During the event, from the sale of ALO 116 merchandise we generated the amount of 14.300 Lek that will go towards the budget of ALO 116 for the year 2012-2013.
