ALO 116-000 started today its national campaign for missing children. The campaign aims to raise public opinion and institutions’ awareness on the issue! Data from 2009 to 2014 shows that the number of missing children has increased 7 fold!
Tirana, 25 May 2015 – ALO 116000: The National Helpline for Missing Children in Albania, on the occasion of the 25th May – International Day for Missing Children, made public today its first ever Thematic Report: “Missing Children in Albania”. The reports reflects the information and data on the issue of missing children in Albania, based on calls and cases collected over a period of 4 years from ALO 116-000 and the National Police Authority in Albania. The main conclusion of the report is that the number of missing children for the period 2009-2014 has increased by 7 times. Girls and children under 14 are the ones mostly exposed to the missing, abduction and trafficking.
Every day across the world 22,000 children are declared as missing, or 8 million children every a year. 1 in 7 missing children is likely to become victim of trafficking and exploitation. 30% of the victims of international trafficking of children originate from an Eastern European countries. ALO 116-National Helpline for Children in Albania reports that every day a child is thinking to runaway from home. Runways of children and adolescents at least for several hours to few days are the most prevalent form of children’s refusal to family situations, violence, abuse and neglect.
25 May – the International Day for Missing Children is a day where people and society worldwide recall missing children, those children who have been victims of trafficking, exploitation and abuse, as well as provides emotional support to the efforts of the families to find their missing children. The main purpose of the International Day for Missing Children is to encourage all public institutions and the society to remember missing children and spread the message of hope that one day we will find them.
ALO 116-000: The National Helpline for Missing Children in Albania hopes that this report will bring to the attention of the media, public opinion, public institutions, police and civil society the issues that missing children and their families face every day, while asking for more actions to be taken from the Government to find all the missing children in Albania
