On the Safe Internet Day 2018, public authorities, civil society and the internet industry jointly discussing the further steps for child online safety throughout Albania
February, 6th 2018 – CRCA Albania and ALO 116, on collaboration with The National Authority for Electronic Certification and Cyber Security, The Ministry of Health and Social Protection, The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, and The Ministry of Interior, was opened today Safe Internet Day #SID2018. In Albania the activities for this symbolic day, as usually, will be extended over a week, dedicated to children and parents rising awareness for the Internet risks and for the protection of children from online abuse and exploitation.
For the first time, Albania has been part of this day in 2006, thanks to the CRCA engagement to advocate for child online rights and protection. In 2010, Albanian National Child Helpline- ALO 116 also has been part of the SID Initiatives in Albania. The aim of this week is to raise awareness of children, parents, teachers, public authorities, NGOs, and private sector to protect and promote services for child online victims. In the frame work of this week were organized activities, such is:
Sign of National Action Plan for child online protection and safety. The plan aims to enhance child online safety through: the strengthening of national and local capacities, consolidation of partnership among government-NGOs- private sector for child online protection; the legal framework improvement; the information and rising awareness for child online protection.
Schools Awareness Campaign. Information activities were took place during the week in seven elementary public and private schools in Tirana. The children were informed on how to protect themselves and their friends. Promotion of the National Child Helpline ALO 116-111 and the National Platform for Child Online Safety www.ISIGURT.al , was the purpose of the meetings with children.
The awareness campaign aims to rise awareness about cyberbulling (online harassment and violence), sexting (personal data, intimate photos, videos shared on internet without the child approval), Internet addiction, online games, thief identity, pornography etc.
Parents Open Forum – Parents of Yzberisht elementary school in Tirana opened their doors for discussion on the framework of child online protection challenges. As parent we don’t know everything about virtual life such is chat, social media, posts, blogs etc, but we may know enough about parenting, rules, principals, boundaries in the child life.
Sign the Review Code of Conduct – During this week, the companies of communications and Internet industry companies reconfirmed the “Code of Conduct”, making some amendments related with services security. The Code of Conduct includes a set of standards to guarantee users protection especially children. It encourages phone and internet companies to create and introduce new tools to increase child online safety. This code offers the opportunity to promote safety access mechanisms, as well as increase parents’ awareness about of parental control programs and instruments.
Meeting with Vodafone Community Parents. At this meeting CRCA and ALO 116 presented case studies and key findings collected from the Albanian National Child Helpline- ALO 116 and from the National Platform for Child Online Safety – www.ISIGURT.al. The focus of the meeting was to share positive experiences and increased industry – CSOs cooperation on child safety.
